Operator and drone registration

The drone operator/owner must register with the National Aviation Authority of the EU country where the operator is based.The following rules apply to this registration:

• Registration is only required once.

• It is independent of how many drones you have operation in the open or the specific category.

• The registration is valid for a defined period set by the National Aviation Authority and requires renewal once expired.

Regarding the drones themselves, registration is mandatory if the drone is certified. Otherwise, registration is also mandatory unless the drone follows all of the following rules:

• It weighs less than 250g.

• It has no camera or sensor attached that detects personal data or

• Even with a camera or other sensor, it is less than 250g in weight, but it is classified as a toy (meaning that its documentation shows that it complies with toy Directive 2009/48/EC.
